Repair Difficulty: Easy

Time to complete: 45 Minutes

The tools and parts that you will need for this repair:

  1. A new Right or Left Ear Hook
  2. Thin Pry Tool for opening housing (If you have a heat gun, this might not be necessary)
  3. Heat Gun (A hairdryer can also do the trick)
  4. Repair Kit (or Small Phillips Screwdriver)
  5. T8000 Glue

    1. Remove the Outside Cover

Using your heat gun or hair dryer, heat up all around the flat edge of the outside cover making sure to not stay in one area for too long so as to damage the plastic. We set our heat gun to around 140F (60C).

Once it is warm, use your fingernail or the thin pry tool to lift up the flat edge of the cover.

With the main part of the cover lifted, heat up the rounded edge then lift the cover entirely away from the housing.

    2. Remove The Old Ear Hook

If you're replacing the right side ear hook, lift the battery up and out of the housing on the side opposite from where the wires attach to it in order to reveal the small Phillips head screw holding the ear hook in place. Remove the screw.

Push the the stub of the ear hook out of its place using your screwdriver or some tweezers. It should slide up and out of the main housing fairly easily.

    4. Install the New Outside Cover

Heat up the adhesive left on the inside of the main housing as well as the cover and use your fingernail, a small flat head screw driver, or something similar to pull/scrape the adhesive off to ensure a flush fitment when gluing them back together. *This can take awhile but is well worth the time.

Put a thin line of glue around the outside edge of the main housing. Keep the line as thin as possible but make sure that it is fully connected around the edge of the housing to ensure the best water sealing possible.
