Step-by-Step DIY Guide to Replacing the Broken or Damaged Hinge Swivel Assembly (Left and Right) on the Bose QuietComfort (QC) Ultra Wireless Bluetooth Headphones at Home
In this detailed DIY repair guide, we show you how to replace the left and right swivel hinge assemblies on the Bose QuietComfort (QC) Ultra wireless Bluetooth headphones at home. Follow the instructions and refer to the corresponding images to restore your device’s form and functionality.
Step 1: Remove the Earpad Cushion
1.1. Insert a strong metal pry tool into the seam between the earpad cushion and the earcup, and gently pry the earpad off.

1.2. Remove the foam mesh and store it safely.

Step 2: Remove the Speaker Driver
2.1. Unfasten the 3 screws securing the right speaker driver and store them safely. For the left earcup, you need to unfasten 4 screws.

2.2. Disconnect the ribbon cable that connects the speaker to the power board using precision tweezers.

Step 3: Extract the Power Board from the Earcup
3.1. The main wires are separated into 2 bunches that are soldered to the upper and lower rows, using a small rubber piece. Use a soldering iron to desolder all the wires. Apply solder flux to each connection point to help remove the old solder more easily. Take a photo of the wires before desoldering them. This will serve as a reference when resoldering the wires later.

3.2. The power board on the right side is secured by a single screw. Extract it using a 2.0mm Philips screwdriver. For the left side, you need to remove 2 screws. If the power board is glued onto the earcup, lift it slightly to pull out the wires from underneath.

Step 4: Separate the Earcup and the Hinge Swivel Assembly
4.1. Unfasten the screw on the side of the earcup, which attaches it to the hinge swivel assembly, using a 90° screwdriver with a T6 bit.

4.2. Remove the metal clip holding the wires at the opposite end of the earcup using precision tweezers and store it safely.

4.3. Separate the earcup from the broken or damaged hinge swivel assembly.

Step 5: Remove the Broken or Damaged Hinge Swivel Assembly
5.1. Grab and pull the main cable off the old hinge swivel arm.

5.2. Bend the hinge swivel, unfasten the 2 screws using a 2.0mm Philips screwdriver, pull out the plastic brackets using precision tweezers, then store everything safely.

5.3. Pull the broken hinge swivel out from the headband assembly, and store the pin that falls out.

5.4. Pull the main cable out of the hinge swivel arm.

Step 6: Install New Hinge Swivel Arm
6.1. Twist the wires into a bun and insert them through the hole in the new hinge swivel arm.

6.2. Pull the main wires through the new hinge swivel assembly till the bend in the cable.

6.3. Align the bend with the groove on the new hinge swivel and pull the rest of the wire toward the headband.

6.4. Insert the small metal piece into the groove on the hinge swivel. Place the flat end of the metal piece facing down toward the surface using precision tweezers.

6.5. Align and push the end of the swivel hinge into the headband slider.

6.6. Insert the 2 small plastic brackets and screws into the hinge arm. Make sure the brackets are not upside down.

Step 7: Assemble the Earcup
7.1. Align the Bose logo on the earcup with the new hinge swivel so that it’s upright. The wire can go through both ends of the earcup. So, make sure the earcup is not upside down after final assembly.

7.2. Twist the wires into a bun and insert them through the hole on the correct side of the earcup.

7.3. Fasten the screw using a 90° screwdriver with a T6 bit.

7.4. Pull the main cable under the power board using precision tweezers. Be careful not to damage the board, battery, or wires.

7.5. On the left earcup, align the small cavity in the power board with the plastic piece on the earcup and fasten the 2 screws. On the right side, fasten the single screw into the power board.

7.6. Solder the wires to the power board according to the reference picture that you took before unsoldering them. Apply soldering flux to the connection points for a better connection.

7.7. Connect the ribbon cable on the speaker driver to the power board.

7.8. Fasten 4 screws on the right speaker and 3 on the left speaker.

7.9. Insert the foam mesh.

7.10. Align the grooves on the earpad cushion with those on the earcup and push them into place.
