Step-by-Step DIY Guide to Replacing the Speaker Driver on the Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless Bluetooth Headphones Yourself

In this detailed DIY repair guide, we show you how to replace the blown left and right speaker drivers on the Sennheiser Momentum 4 wireless headphones. Follow each step carefully and use the accompanying images as a visual guide to complete the repair with confidence.

The repair process is the same for both the left and right sides. We’ll point out any minor differences between the two sides as you work through the repair.

Step 1: Remove the Earpad Cushion

1.1. Insert a strong metal pry tool into the seam between the earpad cushion and the earcup and gently work the tool around the perimeter of the earcup till the two parts separate.

1.2. Insert a flathead screwdriver under the mesh piece and gently lift upward from all sides to peel away the adhesive. Be careful not to damage the underlying MS ribbon cable.

Step 2: Extract the Speaker Driver Housing

2.1. Disconnect the mic-side (MS) ribbon cable with a nylon spudger. Be gentle while peeling away the adhesive so that you don’t damage the MS cable.

2.2. Unfasten 4 screws from the speaker housing with a 1.5 mm Phillips screwdriver.

2.3. Insert a flathead screwdriver into the bottom tab for the earpad cushion and gently pry upward till the speaker housing pops off the earcup.

2.4. Flip the tab lock on the ribbon connector with a nylon spudger to disconnect the MS cable, then unplug the cable with precision tweezers.

2.5. Unplug the second ribbon cable from the connector by repeating the previous steps.

2.6. Flip the speaker housing over to reveal the speaker wires, then apply soldering flux before desoldering the 2 wires from the main board. Take a photograph of the two wires to use as a reference during resoldering. This will help you reconnect the wires in the correct order.

2.7. Remove the MS ribbon cable from the old speaker housing. If the adhesive is too strong, use a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the adhesive, then remove the glue with a flathead screwdriver before pulling the MS ribbon cable away from the speaker.

Step 3: Install New Speaker Driver Housing

3.1. Grab a new speaker housing, then feed the MS ribbon cable through the opening in the speaker housing, and pull the cable all the way out from the other end.

3.2. Connect one end of the MS port to the new speaker driver.

3.3. Resolder the speaker wires to the main board.

3.4. Connect the 2 ribbon cables to the main board with a nylon spudger.

Step 4: Reassemble the Sennheiser Momentum 4 Headphones

4.1. Align the speaker housing with the earcup and press down till the retaining clips click into place. Then, secure the assembly by fastening 4 Phillips screws,

4.2. Stick the foam pad back onto the earcup.

4.3. Align the earpad cushion with the earcup, then press down with your fingers till you hear the retaining clips click into place.
