Step-by-Step DIY Guide to Replacing the Back Cover on the Apple Watch Ultra at Home
In this detailed DIY repair guide, we show you how to replace the worn-out back cover on the Apple Watch Ultra yourself. Follow each step carefully and use the accompanying images as a visual guide to complete the repair with confidence.
Step 1: Extract the Old Back Cover
1.1. Unfasten the 4 small screws using a T6 screwdriver from the Joe’s 50-in-1 Precision Screwdriver Set.

1.2. Extract the 4 waterproof seals and store them safely for later.

1.3. Using a heat gun set at 200°C (392°F) and 50 air speed, soften the waterproof seal between the back cover and the rest of the watch body.

1.4. Insert a thin pry tool in the seam between the back cover and the watch body and gently pry upward from all four sides. You can alternate between the pry tool and the nylon spudger as required. Be careful not to damage the delicate interior wires or the waterproof seal during this step.

1.5. Disconnect the ribbon cable from the back cover.

1.6. Remove the 2 brackets from the back cover and store them safely.

Step 2: Install New Back Cover
2.1. Before installing the new back cover, clean the watch seam using isopropyl alcohol.

2.2. Install the 2 small brackets and seals on the new back cover.

2.3. Reconnect the ribbon cable with the sensor port on the back cover.

2.4. Align the second connector on the watch body with the port on the back cover. You may have to adjust the sensor’s position on the watch body with a plastic spudger to ensure a proper fit.

2.5. Once both halves of the watch are flush, install the 4 seals, then the 4 small screws to ensure a factory-like waterproof fit.
