Step-by-Step DIY Guide to Replacing the Display Screen on the Apple Watch Series 8 at Home
In this detailed DIY repair guide, we show you how to replace the worn-out display screen on the Apple Watch Series 8 yourself. Follow each step carefully and use the accompanying images as a visual guide to complete the repair with confidence.
Step 1: Remove the Display Screen
1.1. Set the heat gun to approximately 170°C (338°F) and heat the edge of the screen for roughly a minute and a half.
1.2. Insert a flexible pry tool in the crevice between the display screen and the watch body and gently pry upward from all four sides to separate the two halves. Dip the pry tool in isopropyl alcohol frequently to help dissolve the adhesive quickly.
1.3. Place two fingers under the ribbon cable and slowly roll it up till the adhesive comes off the screen. The ribbon cable is extremely delicate. Be careful not to tear it.
1.4. Disconnect the 2 ribbon cables with a nylon spudger and pull down simultaneously to dislodge the cables from the connector. Flip the small clip holding the cables in place.
Step 2: Install a New Display Screen
2.1. Peel back the tape to reveal the 2 connectors using a nylon spudger.
2.2. Attach the 2 ribbon connectors to the new display screen. Align each connector with the port and push it up with a nylon spudger. Flip the small clip back into place to ensure a secure fit.
2.3. Roll the tape back over the 2 connectors and the new screen along the grooves.
2.4. Turn on the Apple Watch Series 8 to ensure the new screen works perfectly.
Step 3: Reassemble the Apple Watch Series 8
3.1. Scrape the old glue from the surface of the watch where the screen will sit using a nylon spudger.
3.2. Clean the adhesion surface thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol.
3.3. Apply fresh adhesive on the seam on the watch body where the screen will sit.
3.4. Align the screen to the watch body and press both halves together.
3.5. Wipe off the excess glue from the watch.
3.6. Using a rubber band or plastic clamp, secure the screen to the watch body till the glue cures.
