Step-by-Step DIY Guide to Replacing a Dead or Failing Battery in the Bose QuietComfort 45 Wireless Bluetooth Headphones Yourself

In this detailed DIY repair guide, we show you how to fix a no-charge issue by replacing a dead or failing battery in your Bose QC 45 headphones. Follow each step carefully and use the accompanying images as a visual guide to complete the repair with confidence.

Step 1: Extract the Earpad Cushion

The battery on the Bose QC 45 is in the left earcup. We will only disassemble the left side for this repair.

1.1. Grab the earpad cushion with your fingers and pull it off the retaining clips on the earcup.

1.2. Grip the mesh and gently pull it away from the earcup. It is secured with double-sided tape, so use a flathead screwdriver to carefully peel it off and preserve it for reuse during reassembly.

Step 2: Disassemble the Left Earcup

2.1. Unfasten 2 screws from the left earcup with a 2.0 mm Phillips screwdriver, and set them aside in one of the slots on the rubber work mat.

2.2. Set your heat gun to 150°F (66°C) and apply heat evenly around the perimeter of the battery cover for around a minute to soften the underlying adhesive. Be careful not to damage the speaker driver and other delicate components.

2.3. Insert a flathead screwdriver under the battery cover and lift to separate it from the earcup housing. You can apply more heat to bend the plastic.

2.4. Once the battery cover comes off, clean the old adhesive from the housing with a flathead screwdriver.

2.5. Flip the earcup and disconnect the ribbon cable connecting the outer earcup housing cover to the main board.

2.6. Desolder the red, black, and white wires from the main board. Take a photo of the connections for reference during reassembly.

2.7. Insert a nylon spudger into the seam between the battery and the earcup housing and gently pry the battery out of the housing.

Step 3: Install a New Battery

3.1. Grab a new battery and feed the wires through the opening in the earcup housing, then place it into the slot.

3.2. Apply a thin, continuous line of new adhesive along the perimeter of the battery housing.

3.3. Align the battery cover with the housing and press down with your fingers to ensure the adhesive bonds securely.

Step 4: Reassemble Your Bose QuietComfort (QC) 45 Headphones

4.1. Flip the earcup over and resolder the battery wires using the reference photo from Step 2.6.

4.2. Plug in the ribbon cable from the outer earcup housing to the main board.

4.3. Reinstall the outer earcup housing cover. Make sure it sits flush with the surface.

4.4. Fasten 2 screws to secure the outer earcup housing cover.

4.5. Align the mesh with the earcup, then press down on both ends so that the double-sided tape sticks to the earcup housing.
