Step-by-Step Bose QuietComfort (QC) Ultra Teardown and Repair Guide

In this detailed DIY tutorial, we show you how to disassemble and repair the Bose QuietComfort (QC) Ultra wireless Bluetooth headphones yourself. Follow each step carefully and use the accompanying images as a visual guide to complete the repair with confidence.

Step 1: Extract the Earpad Cushion Muffs

1.1. Insert the flexible pry tool into the seam between the earpad cushions and the earcup, then gently lift till you hear the retaining clips pop out of position.

1.2. Peel off the adhesive tape securing the mesh pad to the earcup housing with the flexible pry tool.

Step 2: Disassemble the Right Earcup

2.1. Unfasten 4 Phillips 2.0 mm screws from the speaker housing and store them safely in one of the slots on the rubber work mat.

2.2. Gently flip the speaker housing to reveal the ribbon cable, then remove the heat tape from the connector and release the lock using precision tweezers to disconnect the right speaker.

2.3. Use precision tweezers to disconnect the two ribbon cables from the main board. Apply gentle heat to soften the adhesive and make removal easier.

2.4. Spread the main wire with your fingers and take a photo of the connection to use as a reference while reassembling the headphones, then desolder the wires from the PCB.

2.5. Unfasten the single 2.0 mm Phillips screw securing the PCB to the earcup housing, then pull out the PCB and set it aside.

2.6. Remove the U-clip securing the main wire to the earcup with a flathead screwdriver.

2.7. Use a 90° T5 screwdriver to unfasten the single screw attached to the side of the earcup.

2.8. Flip the earcup over, then pry it up and away from the swivel hinge. Be careful not to scratch the earcup as you’re pulling it away.

Step 3: Disassemble the Left Earcup

3.1. Unfasten 4 Phillips 2.0mm screws from the speaker housing, then set them aside.

3.2. Flip the speaker housing over to reveal the ribbon connector, then remove the tape over the connector, peel the heat tape, and flip the lock to disconnect the ribbon cable.

3.3. Unplug 2 ribbon cables from the PCB.

3.4. Spread the main wire with your fingers, then take a photograph of the connections to use as a reference while reassembling the left earcup, and desolder the wires.

3.5. Unfasten 2 Phillips 2.0 mm screws from the PCB and pull the unit out from the earcup housing.

3.6. Peel away the black tape covering the ribbon connector on the charger/AUX port with precision tweezers.

3.7. Unfasten 2 screws from the charger/AUX port.

3.8. Pull the small plastic button piece with precision tweezers.

3.9. Disconnect the ribbon cable connected to the charger/AUX port.

3.10. Pry the battery out gently from the earcup housing with a flexible pry tool. You can dip the pry tool in isopropyl alcohol to dissolve the adhesive tape and make the removal easier. Do not heat the battery to soften the glue.

3.11. Remove the small metal U-clip holding the main wire to the earcup.

3.12. Use a 90° T5 screwdriver to unfasten the single screw attached to the side of the earcup.

3.13. Flip the earcup over, then pry it up and away from the swivel hinge. Be careful not to scratch the earcup as you’re pulling it away.

Step 4: Disassemble the Headband

4.1. Unfasten 2 Phillips 2.0 mm screws from the headband hinge arm, then set the components aside.

4.2. Pull the hinge arm out from the headband, then set aside the small pin that falls out.

4.3. Pull the earcup swivel arm out from the main wire.

4.4. Insert a flexible pry tool into the seam where the headband cushion meets the arch, then gently lift to separate the two parts.

4.5. Unfasten 8 screws from each side of the headband arch. Repeat the process on both sides.

4.6. Extract the slider panel away from the headband arch.

4.7. Separate the headband arch, metal slider, and main wire.

4.8. Remove the adhesive securing the main wire to the headband arch to complete the disassembly.
