Why Bose QC35 and QC45 Hinges Break

On the QC35, QC35 II, QC45, and QuietComfort (2023), each ear cup is held by a small hinge swivel at the end of the headband. It's the part that lets the ear cups rotate flat and fold into the case. Every time you put the headphones on, take them off, or fold them, that swivel flexes. Over time it cracks or snaps, usually at the pin where it meets the ear cup, and the ear cup hangs loose or falls off.

The internal wire that carries sound and power between the ear cups runs through the headband right next to the hinge, so a broken hinge can also cause sound to cut out on one side. We check that wire on every hinge repair.

The hinge is the most common repair we do on these models, and on the QC35 II the power switch is a close second. The small slide switch can break, stick, or stop turning the headphones on.

Is It Worth Repairing Bose QC35 or QC45 Headphones?

Usually, yes. Bose no longer makes the QC35 II or QC45, and the newer QuietComfort Headphones often sell for around $199 to $249 even on sale. A $60 to $150 repair keeps a pair you already like, with its noise cancelling, comfort, and sound intact.

If your headphones have several major problems at once, send them in for diagnosis and we'll tell you honestly whether the repair is worth it before any work is done. If your headphones are still under Bose's warranty, check with Bose first.
