Step-by-Step DIY Guide to Replacing the Speaker MS Port on the Sony WH-1000XM4 Headphones at Home
In this detailed DIY repair guide, we show you how to replace the blown speaker MS port on the Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones yourself. Follow each step carefully and use the accompanying images as a visual guide to complete the repair with confidence.
Step 1: Remove the Earpad Cushion
1.1. Insert the strong metal pry tool in the gap between the earpad cushion and the earcup, then gently pry up along the edge.

1.2. Remove the foam mesh and store it safely.

Step 2: Extract the Worn-out Speaker MS Port
2.1. Remove the rubber tab using precision tweezers.

2.2. Disconnect the wires from the worn-out MS port using a soldering iron. Make sure the tip of the soldering iron is clean. Press down on the MS port using the soldering iron as you pull up the wires using the tweezers.

Step 3: Install New Speaker MS Port
3.1. Solder the speaker wires to the new MS port. There are 2 small soldering points on the MS port for the positive and negative wires. The positive terminal has a bigger solder point than the negative terminal. That’s the only way to identify which wire connects to which terminal.

3.2. Press the new speaker MS port into the slot provided on the housing and tuck the wires into place.

3.3. Install the rubber tab.

Step 4: Install the Earpad Cushion
4.1. Install the foam mesh.

4.2. Align the clips on the earpad cushion with the slots on the earcup and press down from both sides till you hear them click securely into place.
