Step-by-Step DIY Guide to Replacing the Swivel Hinge Assembly on the Sony WH-H910N Wireless Headphones at Home

In this detailed DIY repair guide, we show you how to fix the broken, cracked, or loose hinge swivel assembly on the Sony WH-H910N headphones. Follow each step carefully and use the accompanying images as a visual guide to complete the repair with confidence.

The repair process is the same for both the left and right sides. We’ll point out any minor differences between the two sides as you work through the repair.

Step 1: Remove the Earpad Cushion

Insert a strong metal pry tool into the seam between the earpad cushion and the earcup housing, then gently work the tool around the perimeter of the earcup while pulling up the earpad until the two parts separate.

Step 2: Separate the Earcup from the Broken Hinge Swivel

2.1. Unfasten 5 Phillips screws holding the earcup together, then place them aside.

2.2. Insert a strong metal pry tool into the seam between the outer panel and the earcup housing, then gently pry upward till the panel pops off.

2.3. Unfasten 2 screws from the earcup hinge.

2.4. Unplug the gesture touch panel ribbon.

2.5. Disconnect the main wire from the PCB with precision tweezers.

2.6. Pop the earcup from one side of the hinge and press the other side till the earcup and the headband separate.

Step 3: Extract the Broken Hinge Swivel

3.1. Pull the earcup hinge swivel out from the assembly.

3.2. Remove the O-ring from the main wire.

3.3. Remove the top plastic piece from the hinge arm.

3.4. Unfasten the 4 screws from the hinge swivel.

3.5. Extract the broken hinge swivel and pull the main wire all the way through. Bend the wire near the end to push the connector out of the hinge.

Step 4: Install New Hinge Swivel

4.1. Grab the new hinge swivel and extract the small metal horseshoe lock with precision tweezers.

4.2. Pull the new hinge swivel all the way to the end of the wire. Make sure to pull the loose O-ring toward the main wire connector.

4.3. Align the new hinge swivel with the headband in the correct orientation, then lock it in place with the metal horseshoe piece.

4.4. Align the earcup hinge arm with the hinge swivel and fasten the 4 screws.

4.5. Tuck the wire into the groove on the hinge arm, then install the top plastic piece and press it securely till the retaining clips click into position.

4.6. Pull the rubber O-ring back into place.

Step 5: Reassemble the Sony WH-H910N Headphones

5.1. Align the earcup hinge swivel with the hinge arm. Make sure to align it in the correct orientation.

5.2. Align one end of the hinge swivel with the earcup, then pull the other end and fasten it with 2 screws.

5.3. Plug in the main wire connector, then tuck the wires into the groove to prevent accidentally damaging them while fastening the screws on the speaker housing.

5.4. Plug in the gesture touch panel ribbon cable.

5.5. Install the gesture touch control panel on the earcup, then flip it over and fasten the 5 screws to secure the assembly.
