Step-by-Step DIY Guide to Replacing a Dead or Dying Battery on the Sony WF-1000XM4 In-Ear Earbuds Yourself
In this detailed DIY repair guide, we show you how to fix a dead or dying battery on the Sony WF-1000XM4 in-ear earbuds yourself. Follow each step carefully and use the accompanying images as a visual guide to complete the repair with confidence.
Step 1: Disassemble the Charging Case
1.1. Insert a plastic spudger into the seam between the outer cover and the charging case while firmly squeezing the top and bottom with your thumb and middle finger. Carefully release the four retaining clips securing the cover, then lift it off. Store the outer cover in a safe place until reassembly.
1.2. Unclip the 2 connectors on the charging case with a nylon spudger.
1.3. Pull the battery housing away from the charging case with your fingers.
Step 2: Extract the Dead or Dying Battery from the Charging Case
2.1. Unplug the battery cable from the PCB with a nylon spudger.
2.2. Pull the battery cover off the battery with your fingers and set it aside.
2.3. Use a nylon spudger to carefully pry the battery away from the housing and remove it. The battery is secured with double-sided adhesive tape, so try to preserve the tape as you separate the battery. Discard the old battery after removal.
Step 3: Install a New Battery
3.1. Align the new battery with the housing and press firmly till the double-sided tape forms a strong bond.
3.2. Align the battery cover and press down till you hear it clip into place.
3.3. Connect the battery cable with the PCB.
Step 4: Reassemble the Sony XM4 Earbud Charging Case
4.1. Tuck the cables neatly into the charging case, then align the four retaining clips on the front and rear of the battery housing. Press the two halves together until all four clips snap securely into place.
4.2. Align the outer cover with the charging case then press down till you hear the clips click into place.
