Step 1: Remove the Left Earpad Cushion

The Bluetooth board is located inside the left earcup. We will start the repair process by disassembling the left earcup.

1.1. Insert a strong metal pry tool into the seam between the earpad cushion and the earcup, then gently work the tool along the perimeter till the two halves separate.

1.2. Remove the foam pad and set it aside.

Step 2: Disassemble the Left Earcup

2.1. Unfasten 8 small silver screws securing the speaker driver and the earcup housing.

2.2. Remove the back panel and set it aside.

2.3. Disconnect all the internal cables from the circuit board.

2.4. Desolder the 2 wires.

2.5. Unfasten the 3 screws from the Bluetooth board with a 1.5mm Phillips screwdriver.

2.6. Remove the old Bluetooth board and discard it.

Step 3: Install New Bluetooth Board

3.1. Align the 2 pins on the new Bluetooth board with the grooves on the earcup housing, then secure it in place with three 1.5mm Phillips screws.

3.2. Reconnect all the internal ribbon cables with the Bluetooth board.

3.3. Solder the 2 wires back on the new Bluetooth board. The copper wire goes on the left side and the red goes on the right.

Step 4: Reassemble the Sony WH-1000XM5 Headphones

4.1. Place the back panel over the earcup, flip it over, and fasten the 8 screws.

4.2. Install the foam mesh.

4.3. Align the earpad cushion with the earcup, then press down till you hear the clips click into place.
