Bose QC 35 I & II Diagnostic Guide

Bose QuietComfort 35 Repair Help

Use this guide to figure out what is probably wrong with your Bose QuietComfort 35 before buying parts or sending them in. It covers common QC35 problems like battery draining too fast, battery stuck at 1%, no sound on one side, ANC buzzing, Bluetooth not connecting, headphones turning on by themselves, won't power on, and charging port failures.

Start with the symptom that matches your headphones, then choose the next step: buy the part, watch a repair tutorial, or send your QC35 to JoesGE for service.

Quick Symptom Finder

Pick the closest symptom. The detailed repair options are listed below in each section.

Battery Issues

QC35 battery life problems, charge stuck at 1%, and battery replacement symptoms.

2 symptoms
Battery draining too fast Charge doesn't last as long as it used to — the headphones die much sooner than expected after a full charge.
Most likely cause Battery wear — frequent overcharging can degrade the cell over time so it can no longer hold a full charge.
Battery stuck at 1% The headphones report 1% battery regardless of how long they are charged, or won't charge past that level.
Most likely cause Battery failure — the cell has failed and can no longer accept or hold a charge.

Audio and ANC Issues

No sound, cutting in and out, ANC not working, and buzzing noise problems.

2 symptoms
No sound or sound cutting in and out on one side One ear cup is silent or drops in and out while the other plays normally.
Most likely cause Speaker failure on the affected side.
ANC not working or buzzing sound on one side Noise cancellation has stopped working, or there is a persistent buzzing or hissing sound in one ear cup.
Likely causes MS port failure on the power board, or power board failure. Try replacing the MS port first — if that doesn't resolve it, the power board may need replacement.

Bluetooth Issues

Pairing failures, connection drops, and wireless connectivity problems.

1 symptom
Bluetooth not connecting to phone The QC35 powers on but won't pair, won't show up in your device's Bluetooth list, or connects and immediately drops.
Likely causes Bluetooth board failure (left side main board) or power board failure (right side main board). Try replacing the Bluetooth board first.

Power Issues

Headphones turning on by themselves, won't power on, no power, no charge, and charging port failures.

4 symptoms
Headphones turning on by themselves The QC35 powers on without pressing the power button, or turns on randomly on its own.
Most likely cause Power switch failure — the sliding spring switch on the right main board has worn out or is sticking.
Headphones charge but won't power on The charging light comes on but pressing the power button does nothing — the headphones won't boot up.
Likely causes Power board failure or water/sweat damage to the right main board.
No power and won't charge Completely unresponsive — no lights, no audio, no response to the power button or charging cable.
Possible causes Power board failure or charging port failure — possibly water or sweat damage. Work through them in order: Power board → Charging port.
Headphones turn off and on rapidly with a clicking sound The QC35 keeps cycling on and off with a clicking or popping noise — often happens when plugged in to charge.
Most likely cause Charging port failure — the port is likely damaged or the charge IC has failed, causing the headphones to reset repeatedly.

Water or Sweat Damage?

The QC35 I and II are not water resistant. Sweat and moisture are common causes of power board failure, charging port damage, and intermittent power issues on these headphones.

  1. If the headphones stopped working after heavy use or got wet, water or sweat damage is a likely factor.
  2. Check the charging port for any visible corrosion or discoloration.
  3. If the power board has visible corrosion, replacement is usually the only fix.

If you are not sure what failed after going through the symptoms, sending them in is the safest option — we will diagnose and only replace what actually needs replacing.

Not sure where to start? Power issues on the QC35 can overlap between the power board, charging port, and battery. We recommend sending them in if you have more than one symptom — diagnosing first saves money over replacing parts one at a time.
