Does your Beats Solo 4 produce no sound in one ear, or does the audio cut in and out when you adjust the headband slider? Over time, repeated folding, stretching, and everyday use can cause the main wire running through the headband to fray, break, or develop intermittent connections. We will also replace the 5-core wire while the headphones are open, since it is a common failure point on Beats Solo 3 and Solo 4 models. Step-by-Step Guide to Replacing the Main Wire and 5-Core Wire on the Beats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth Headphones at Home
In this detailed DIY repair guide, we show you how to replace the main and the 5-core wires on the Beats Solo 4 wireless Bluetooth headphones at home. Follow the instructions and refer to the corresponding images to restore your device’s form and functionality.
Step 1: Disassemble and Separate the Left Earcup from the Headphones
1.1. Insert a strong metal pry tool into the seam between the earcup and the earpad cushion and gently pry upward to remove it.

1.2. Peel away the old adhesive tape from the underside of the earpad cushion.

1.3. Unfasten the 3 small screws securing the speaker housing using a 2.0mm Phillips screwdriver.

1.4. Pull the speaker housing off the earcup.

1.5. Apply heat using a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the adhesive over the connection point where the main wire is attached to the speaker housing.

1.6. Peel away the old adhesive using a flathead screwdriver.

1.7. Desolder all the wires connected to the main cable, leaving the two internal wires untouched. Apply solder flux to each connection point to help ensure the wires are removed cleanly and efficiently. Click a photograph of the wire connections to use as a reference during reassembly.

1.8. Insert a strong metal pry tool into the seam between the outer plastic cover and the earcup. Gently work the tool up and down to separate the two pieces. Be careful not to damage the clips on the inside or outside panels.

1.9. Pull the main wire through the hole in the earcup. Remove the excess glue as necessary.

1.10. Unplug the main wires from the circuit board using precision tweezers.

1.11. Unfasten the single screw from the circuit board.

1.12. Pull the main wire away from the earcup.

Step 2: Replace the Old Left 5-Core Cable with New Genuine OEM Spares
2.1. Disconnect the old 5-core cable connection using precision tweezers and discard the old wire.

2.2. Plug in the new 5-Core cable.

Step 3: Disassemble and Separate the Right Earcup from the Headphones
3.1. Unfasten the 3 small screws securing the speaker housing to the right earcup.

3.2. Flip the speaker housing and pull the main wire off the adhesive.

3.3. Using a heat gun or hair dryer, apply heat to soften the glue covering the connection points. Remove the old adhesive using tweezers.

3.4. Desolder the wire connected to the circuit board. Click a photograph for visual reference during reassembly.

3.5. Using a pair of tweezers or a flathead screwdriver, remove the excess adhesive on the earcup so that you can pull the main wire through it.

3.6. Flip the earcup, then insert a strong metal pry tool under the outer shell of the earcup and separate the two halves just like Step 1.8.

3.7. Extract the charger port wire and the main wire using precision tweezers through the hole in the earcup.

3.8. Insert a strong metal pry tool under the battery and very gently pry it away from the adhesive tape.

3.9. Disconnect the main wire using precision tweezers. You can soften the adhesive over the connection with some heat from a heat gun.

3.10. Pull the main wire away from the right earcup.

Step 4: Disassemble the Headband
4.1. Insert a strong metal pry tool at the edge where the headband meets the slider mechanism and pry the leather slightly to reveal the 2 small screws on both sides of the headband.

4.2. Unfasten the 2 small screws on both sides of the headband using the 2.0mm Phillips screwdriver.

Ninja Insight: When reassembling the Beats Solo 4 headphones, remember that the number 4 is etched on the right slider hinge, while the left hinge has no markings.

4.3. Pull the 2 tiny pins off the slider hinge using precision tweezers for better access while inserting the new main wire. You may need to apply some heat so that the pins come out easily. Repeat this process on both sides.

4.4. Since you will be replacing the main wire, cut it using a blade for easier extraction.

Professional Tip: The headband slightly tilts inward toward the front, which is only visible from the top. It’s important that you identify the left and right sides during reassembly to ensure proper fitment after the repair.

4.5. Insert a strong metal pry tool between the two halves of the headband cushion and gently pry the two sides off the headband arch.

4.6. Pull the old wire off the headband arch and discard it.

Step 5: Insert the New Main Wire into the Headband Assembly
5.1. The main wire has 2 clips on the left side and 1 on the right. Align both ends correctly to avoid having to start all over again.

5.2. Feed the new main wire through the left and right slider hinges. Make sure you insert the wire in the correct orientation.

5.3. Insert the small pin into the hinge using precision tweezers. Make sure the in goes into the side that it came out of. Repeat the process with both hinges.

5.4. Align each end of the headband arch with the slider hinges and push them into place.

5.5. Pull on the centre of the main wire to ensure that it sticks out equally on both ends.

5.6. Push the main wire into the groove provided on the headband arch.

5.7. Align the ends of the headband cushion with the headband arch and push the two halves together.

Keep in Mind: There are 2 small notches at both ends of the headband cushion. You can align them with the pegs on the headband arch or tear the notches using precision tweezers for an easy fit. The assembly is held together with screws. Removing these small notches does not affect the structural integrity of the headphones.

5.8. If you notice a small gap where the earpad cushion meets the slider hinge, pop the metal piece and slide it back down over the ends of the cushion for a flush fit.

5.9. Fasten 2 screws at the end of the slider hinge. Repeat the process on the other side.

Step 6: Reassemble the Left Earcup
6.1. Reattach the main wire to the power board using precision tweezers.

6.2. Fix the main wire into the slot provided in the slider hinge using super glue and let it cure for 5 minutes. Repeat the process on both sides.

6.3. Make sure the main wire is tight where the earcup slider is fully extended.

6.4. Push the wires into the slots provided on the earcup using precision tweezers and fix them in place using super glue.

6.5. Force a flathead screwdriver into the hole through which the main wire will pass and ream the edges to widen the gap.

6.6. Feed the wires through the widened hole.

6.7. Align the outer and inner panels and press them together till you hear the clips click into place.

6.8. Test the sliding mechanism by extending the earcup all the way and retracting it to ensure it’s moving freely.

6.9. Solder the wires back onto the speaker housing according to the reference photograph from Step 1.7.

6.10. Push the wires into the earcup as you align the speaker housing with the earcup, then fasten the 3 screws to secure the two pieces together.

Pro Tip: Make sure none of the wires are visible in the screw hole before you start fastening the 3 screws. If not, you may end up tearing through the wires.
Step 7: Reassemble the Right Earcup
7.1. Apply super glue to the groove in the hinge slider where the main wire will sit.

7.2. Press the main wire into the hinge slider and wait 5 minutes for the adhesive to cure.

7.3. Connect the internal wires using precision tweezers.

7.4. Widen the gap in the speaker housing using a flathead screwdriver for the wires to pass unobstructed.

7.5. Feed the black charger port wire through the hole first since it’s the widest, followed by the red and blue wires.

7.6. Align the ends of the wire to make sure it is tight when the hinge slider is extended. Secure all the wires to the earcup by placing the battery over them and pushing the adhesive tape into place.

7.7. Combine the outer and inner panels and press on the edges till you hear the clips click into place. Test the hinge slider to ensure it is working properly.

7.8. Solder the wires back on according to the reference photograph from Step 3.4.

7.9. Combine the speaker housing and the earcup. Fold the wires so that they don’t get in the way.

7.10. Make sure the wires are not visible under the screw holes, then fasten the 3 screws.

Step 8: Attach the Earpad Cushions
8.1. Peel the old tape from the earpad cushions.

8.2. Install new earpad cushion tape.

8.3. Align the earpad cushions with the correct earcups and press them together for 10 seconds or till the adhesive cures.
