Step-by-Step DIY Guide to Replacing a Malfunctioning AUX Audio Jack (2.5mm Port) on the Bose QuietComfort (QC) 35 (1st and 2nd Generations) Headphones at Home
In this detailed DIY repair guide, we show you how to replace a loose or wobbly AUX port on the Bose QC 35 (I and II) headphones yourself. The AUX port is located inside the left earcup. For this repair, we will only work on the left side. Follow each step carefully and use the accompanying images as a visual guide to complete the repair with confidence.
Step 1: Remove the Earpad Cushion
1.1. Grab the earpad cushion with your fingers, then pull it off the retaining clips.
1.2. Remove the mesh from the earcup and set it aside. It is secured with double-sided tape, so peel it away gently to preserve the adhesive for reinstallation.
Step 2: Extract the Outer Earcup Housing
2.1. Unfasten the two 1.5mm screws holding the outer earcup housing.
2.2. Flip the earcup to extract the outer earpad housing cover.
2.3. Desolder the ribbon cable connecting the AUX port to the charging PCB.
2.4. Unfasten 2 Phillips screws to release the faulty AUX port from the earcup housing.
2.5. Extract the worn-out AUX PCB and discard it.
Step 3: Install a New AUX Jack
3.1. Grab a new AUX jack and place it in the groove on the earcup housing. Make sure the 2.5mm jack aligns with the hole in the housing, then secure it with two 1.5mm Phillips screws.
3.2. Resolder the ribbon cable to the new AUX PCB.
Step 4: Reassemble Your Bose QuietComfort (QC) 35 Headphones
4.1. Place the outer earcup housing cover over the earcup. Make sure it’s flush with the surface, then flip the earcup and secure the cover with 2 Phillips screws.
4.2. Reinstall the mesh pad over the earcup housing with double-sided adhesive tape.
4.3. Grab the earpad cushion, align the lip with the slot in the earcup housing, then push the retaining clips into place.
