Step-by-Step DIY Guide to Replacing a Wobbly or Loose Charging Port on the Bose QuietComfort (QC) 35 Headphones at Home

In this detailed DIY repair guide, we show you how to replace a loose or wobbly charging port on your Bose QC 35 headphones yourself. Follow each step carefully and use the accompanying images as a visual guide to complete the repair with confidence.

Step 1: Remove the Right Earpad Cushion

The charging port on the Bose QuietComfort (QC) 35 is on the right side. We will only work on the right earcup for this repair.

1.1. Grab the earpad cushion with your fingers, then pull it off the retaining clips.

1.2. Remove the mesh from the earcup and set it aside. It is secured with double-sided tape, so peel it away gently to preserve the adhesive for reinstallation.

Step 2: Extract the Outer Earcup Housing

2.1. Unfasten the three 1.5mm screws holding the outer earcup housing.

2.2. Flip the earcup, then insert a nylon spudger into the seam between the outer cover and earcup housing and pry till the two parts separate. Set the cover aside for reassembly.

Step 3: Extract the Worn-out Charging Port

3.1. Unplug the ribbon cable from the charging port with precision tweezers.

3.2. Unfasten the two 1.5mm Phillips screws securing the charging port to the earcup housing.

3.3. Pry the old charging port out of the earcup housing using precision tweezers.

3.4. Disconnect the small ribbon cable connected to the charging port.

Step 5: Install a New Charging Port

5.1. Grab a new charging port, then reconnect the small ribbon cable with the help of precision tweezers.

5.2. Place the new charging port into the earcup housing, then secure it with 2 Phillips screws.

5.3. Reconnect the other ribbon cable to the new charging port.

5.4. Apply 3 dots of T8000 adhesive over the ribbon connector and wait for it to cure.

Step 6: Reassemble Your Bose QuietComfort (QC) 35 Headphones

6.1. Place the outer earcup housing cover over the earcup housing, grab it with both hands and flip it, then fasten 3 Phillips screws to secure it to the earcup housing.

6.2. Reinstall the mesh pad over the earcup housing with double-sided adhesive tape.

6.3. Grab the earpad cushion, align the lip with the slot in the earcup housing, then push the retaining clips into place.
