Step-by-Step DIY Guide to Replacing a Dead or Failing Battery in the Bose QuietComfort 35 Wireless Bluetooth Headphones Yourself
In this detailed DIY repair guide, we show you how to fix a no-charge issue by replacing a dead or failing battery in your Bose QC 35 headphones. Follow each step carefully and use the accompanying images as a visual guide to complete the repair with confidence.
Step 1: Extract the Left Earpad Cushion
The battery in the Bose QuietComfort 35 (I and II) is located on the left side. We will only work on the left earcup for this repair.
1.1. The left earpad is held on by small clips that run around the edge of the speaker housing. Carefully pull off these clips with your fingers to peel the earpad away from the earcup housing.
1.2. The mesh inside the earcup is held on by two pieces of double-sided tape on both sides. Peel the tape off the housing to prevent tearing the mesh.
Step 2: Remove the Outer Earcup Housing Cover
2.1. Unfasten 2 Phillips screws securing the outer earcup housing cover to the earcup.
2.2. Extract the outer earcup housing cover.
Step 3: Extract the Worn-out Battery
3.1. Take a photo of the red, white, and black wires connecting the battery to the main board, then desolder them from the PCB.
3.2. Flip the headphones over to access the battery cover. Apply gentle heat to soften the adhesive, then insert a flathead screwdriver underneath the cover and carefully pry it away from the earcup housing.
3.3. Insert a nylon spudger underneath the battery and gently pry it away from the earcup housing.
Step 4: Install a New Battery
4.1. Grab a new battery, straighten out the wires, and feed them through the hole in the earcup housing.
4.2. Apply a thin line of B7000 adhesive around the perimeter of the battery cover.
4.3. Align the cover with the battery housing, then press down with your fingers till the adhesive bonds.
4.4. Flip the earcup, then resolder the battery wires in the correct order according to the reference photo from Step 3.1.
Step 5: Reassemble Your Bose QuietComfort (QC) 35 Headphones
5.1. Place the outer earcup housing cover over the earcup, then flip it and fasten 2 Phillips screws to secure the assembly. Make sure the cover sits flush with the earcup.
5.2. Install the mesh cover with double-sided adhesive tape.
5.3. Install the earpad by peeling back the leather and placing the edge into the rim of the housing. Once it is seated, apply even pressure around the entire edge of the earpad to snap it into place.
