Step-by-Step DIY Guide to Replacing a Wobbly or Loose Charging or AUX Port on the Bose QuietComfort (QC) Ultra Headphones at Home

In this detailed DIY repair guide, we show you how to replace a loose or wobbly charger port on the Bose QC Ultra headphones yourself. Follow each step carefully and use the accompanying images as a visual guide to complete the repair with confidence.

Step 1: Extract the Earpad Cushion

The charging or AUX port on the QC Ultra is in the left earcup. So, for this repair, we will only work on the left side.

1.1. Insert a strong metal pry tool into the seam between the earpad cushion and the earcup, and gently pry it off.

1.2. Extract the foam mesh with the pry tool and set it aside.

Step 2: Extract the Speaker Housing

2.1. Unfasten 4 screws securing the speaker housing with the earcup and store them in one of the slots on the rubber work mat.

2.2. Gently flip the speaker housing from the bottom to reveal the speaker cable. Use precision tweezers to flip the lock and unplug the ribbon cable, then set the speaker aside.

Step 3: Extract the Malfunctioning Charging or AUX Board

3.1. Unfasten 2 screws securing the charging board to the earcup housing with a 1.5mm Phillips screwdriver.

3.2. Peel back the tape to separate the small LED indicator light from the earcup housing.

3.3. Lift the charging board to reveal the ribbon cable, then disconnect it with precision tweezers.

Repair Ninja Tip: You may need to gently peel the adhesive cover away from the ribbon cable using precision tweezers before you can disconnect it.

3.4. Pull the tape with the LED indicator away from the old charging board. You need to install the light on the new board.

Step 4: Install a New Charging or AUX Board

4.1. Grab a new AUX or charging board and install the LED indicator over the LED light on the board, then secure it with the black tape.

4.2. Reconnect the ribbon cable for the charging board.

4.3. Align the new charging or AUX board with the earcup housing. Make sure the LED indicator light lines up with the small hole in the housing.

4.4. Secure the charging board to the earcup housing with two 1.5mm Phillips screws.

Step 5: Reassemble Your Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones

5.1. Reconnect the ribbon cable from the speaker housing to the main board.

5.2. Flip the speaker housing over the earcup, then secure the assembly by fastening four 1.5mm Phillips screws.
