Step-by-Step DIY Guide to Replacing a Wobbly or Loose Charging and AUX Port on the Sony WH-ULT900N Headphones at Home
In this detailed DIY repair guide, we show you how to replace a loose or wobbly charger and AUX port on the Sony WH-ULT900N headphones yourself. Follow each step carefully and use the accompanying images as a visual guide to complete the repair with confidence.
Step 1: Extract the Left Earpad Cushion
The charger and AUX ports are located on the left side. We will only disassemble the left earcup for this repair.
1.1. Insert a strong metal pry tool into the seam between the earpad cushion and the earcup, then gently work the tool around the perimeter till the retaining clips pop out of the socket, separating the two parts.
1.2. Remove the foam mesh pad and set it aside.
Step 2: Disassemble the Left Earcup
2.1. Unfasten 8 black screws and store them separately. Use precision tweezers to extract any stubborn hardware.
2.2. Insert a flathead screwdriver into the seam between the outer panel and the earcup and lift the tool to remove the left outer panel, then unplug it from the Bluetooth board.
2.3. Disconnect the 3 ribbon cables from the Bluetooth board with a nylon spudger.
2.4. Apply soldering flux to the speaker wires (the blue and red wires) and the AUX and charging wires on the smaller PCB.
2.5. Desolder the 3 wires from the 2 circuit boards.
2.6. Unfasten the 3 silver screws from the Bluetooth board with a 1.5mm Phillips screwdriver.
2.7. Extract the speaker driver from the earcup housing.
Step 3: Extract the AUX and Charger Port
3.1. Unfasten the single screw attached to the AUX and charger port.
3.2. Remove the silicone adhesive securing the AUX and charging ribbon cable.
3.3. Pull the old AUX and charger port from the earcup housing and discard it.
Step 4: Install New AUX and Charger Port
4.1. Before installing the new AUX and charging port, remove any old adhesive residue with precision tweezers or a flathead screwdriver.
4.2. Feed the AUX and charging ribbon cable through the opening in the earcup.
4.3. Feed the wires to the PCB through the small hole in the earcup housing.
4.4. Fasten the single screw on the new AUX and charging PCB.
Step 5: Reassemble the Left Earcup
5.1. Resolder the AUX and charging port wires back onto the small circuit board. The blue wire goes on the left, and the red wire goes on the right.
5.2. Feed the wires on the speaker driver through the small hole in the earcup housing. Once the wires are in, pull them gently until the speaker driver sits flush with the earcup housing.
5.3. Fasten the 4 screws on the speaker housing to secure it in place.
5.4. Fasten the 3 silver screws on the Bluetooth board.
5.5. Plug all the ribbon cables into the Bluetooth board.
5.6. Solder the speaker wires to the Bluetooth board.
5.7. Plug the outer panel wire into the Bluetooth board.
5.8. Align the outer panel with the earcup housing, then flip the earcup and fasten 4 screws to secure the assembly.
Step 6: Reinstall the Earpad Cushion
6.1. Insert the foam mesh pad into the earcup.
6.2. Align the tabs on the earpad cushion with the slots on the earcup housing, then press both sides together till the retaining clips click into place.
