In this detailed DIY teardown guide, we show you how to disassemble and repair the Sony WH-ULT900N wireless Bluetooth headphones yourself. Follow each step carefully and use the accompanying images as a visual guide to complete the repair with confidence.
Step 1: Extract the Left and Right Earpad Cushions
1.1. Insert a strong metal pry tool into the seam between the earpad cushion and the earcup, then gently work the tool around the perimeter till the retaining clips pop out of the socket, separating the two parts.

1.2. Remove the foam mesh pad and set it aside.

Repeat both steps on the other side.
Step 2: Disassemble the Right Earcup
We'll begin disassembling the headphones from the right side, as the battery is located inside the right earcup. You should always disconnect the battery before desoldering wires to prevent accidental short-circuits and damage to internal components.
2.1. Unfasten the 8 small black screws with a 1.5mm Phillips screwdriver, then store them carefully in one of the slots in the rubber work mat.

Ninja Tip: If the screws refuse to come out, you can extract them with precision tweezers.

2.2. Insert a 1.5mm flathead screwdriver into the seam between the outer touch panel and the earcup, then gently pry up with the tool to separate the two parts. Be careful not to tear the touch ribbon connected to the main board.

2.3. Disconnect the touch ribbon cable with a flathead screwdriver.

2.4. Unplug the battery ribbon with a flathead screwdriver.

2.5. Insert a nylon spudger below the battery and gently pry upward to dislodge the double-sided tape.

2.6. Unplug the last ribbon cable from the main board with a nylon spudger.

2.7. Apply flux on all the solder points.

2.8. Use a soldering iron to desolder all the wires from the main board. Before removing any wires, take a clear photo of their positions to use as a reference during reassembly. This will help ensure each wire is soldered back to the correct pad.

2.9. Unfasten the 2 silver screws securing the earcup to the headband assembly with a 1.5mm Phillips screwdriver.

2.10. Remove the waterproof gasket and set it aside in a safe place for reinstallation later.

2.11. Lift the earcup out and away from the hinge assembly.

2.12. Unfasten the 2 silver screws securing the power board to the earcup with a 1.5mm Phillips screwdriver.

2.13. Remove the glue securing the wire to the speaker driver with a flathead screwdriver.

Important Note: You can apply heat with a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the adhesive.

2.14. Remove the single screw securing the plastic filter, then lift the filter out and set it aside for reinstallation later.

2.15. Insert a flathead screwdriver into one of the grooves on the speaker driver and lift it away from the earcup housing.

Step 3: Disassemble the Right Headband Hinge
3.1. Pull the main wire out from the hinge assembly and set it aside.

3.2. Remove the green O-ring from the side with the main wire with a flathead screwdriver, then keep it safe for reassembly.

3.3. Unfasten the single 1.5mm Phillips screw and store it safely away from the other screws.

3.4. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently lift the outer panel of the headband swivel and move it out of the way. Wiggle the retaining tab back and forth and slide it out rather than pulling up, as lifting it may damage or break the retaining clip.

3.5. Remove the metal horseshoe piece with precision tweezers.

3.6. Slide the hinge assembly away from the headband swivel.

3.7. Unfasten the 2 screws securing the headband hinge.

3.8. Separate the inner and outer panels by sliding them out from the headband.

5.3. Remove the waterproof gasket and preserve it for reinstallation.

5.4. Disconnect the 3 ribbon cables from the Bluetooth board with a nylon spudger.

5.8. Unfasten the 3 silver screws from the Bluetooth board with a 1.5mm Phillips screwdriver.

6.1. Pull the main wire out from inside the earcup hinge swivel.

6.2. Remove the green O-ring gasket and set it aside.

6.3. Unfasten the 1.5mm Phillips screw attached to the top plastic part of the earcup swivel assembly.

6.4. With a flathead screwdriver, lift the top plastic part of the swivel hinge, then wiggle and pull it out from the socket. Do not pull or lift the part, as it will break the retaining clip.

6.5. Remove the metal horseshoe piece with precision tweezers, then set it aside.

6.6. Unfasten the two 1.5mm Phillips screws from the headband hinge assembly.

6.7. Separate the inner and outer panels of the slider mechanism by sliding them apart.
