Step-by-Step DIY Guide to Replacing the Batteries on the Sony WF-XB700 in-ear Earbuds at Home
In this detailed DIY repair guide, we show you how to replace a dead or dying battery on the Sony WF-XB700 earbuds yourself. The repair process is identical for both earbuds. Follow each step carefully and use the accompanying images as a visual guide to complete the repair with confidence.
Step 1: Remove the Outer Shell of the Earbud
Insert a nylon spudger into the seam between the outer shell and the earbud housing, and gently pull the housing toward your body while pushing down on the shell with the spudger.

Pro Tip: The button pusher and plastic cover for the LED indicator are located inside the outer shell. Do not flip the cover over, or you may lose them.
Step 2: Extract the Main Board
2.1. Unplug the ribbon cable with a nylon spudger.

2.2. Pry out the main board with a flathead screwdriver. Use your fingers as a pivot rather than the housing to avoid damaging it. Be careful not to tear the wires underneath.

Step 3: Extract the Worn-out Battery
3.1. Pry out the battery with a flathead screwdriver. Use your fingers as a pivot when applying pressure to avoid damaging the earbud housing.

Step 4: Install a New Battery
Grab a new battery and place it into the earbud housing. The battery has a flat and a raised side. Position it with the flat side facing down so it sits correctly in the housing.

Step 5: Reassemble the Sony WF-XB700 Earbuds
5.1. Hold the ribbon connector back with one finger, align the charging pins on the main board with the slots on the earbud housing, and press down on the PCB till you hear the retaining clips click into place.

5.2. Plug in the ribbon connector with your fingers.

5.3. Align the plastic LED cover on the outer shell with the LED indicator on the earbud. Then align the button pusher on the outer shell with the corresponding button on the earbud. Press the outer shell onto the earbud until the two parts fit together securely.
