Step 1: Extract the Right Earpad Cushion
The charging port is located inside the right earcup. We will only disassemble the right earcup for this repair.
1.1. Insert a strong metal pry tool into the seam between the earpad cushion and the earcup, then gently work the tool along the perimeter till the two halves separate.

1.2. Remove the foam pad and set it aside.

Step 2: Extract the Worn-out Charger Port
2.1. Unfasten the 8 screws from the speaker housing with a 1.5mm Phillips screwdriver, and store them in one of the slots on the rubber work mat.

2.2. Flip the earcup over, then pull the touch panel off and disconnect the ribbon cable.

2.3. Remove the top panel with a flathead screwdriver.

2.4. Unfasten the single screw securing the charging port to the earcup housing.

Optional Step: Replace the Charging Port Ribbon
2.7. Flip the earcup, then disconnect the charging port ribbon from the PCB.

2.8. Remove the adhesive holding the charging port ribbon cable with a flathead screwdriver, then pull it out of the slot.

Ninja Repair Tip: For better access when removing the adhesive, you can remove the single screw securing the power board to the earcup housing. This allows you to move the board slightly without disconnecting it.

Step 3: Install New Charging Port and Ribbon Cable
3.1. Install a new ribbon cable to the new charging port. Make sure the black line on the cable sits flush with the connector on the charging port.

3.2. Feed the end of the charging ribbon cable through the opening on the earcup housing.

3.3. Align the charging port with the earcup housing and secure it with a 1.5mm screw.

3.4 Flip the earcup over, then connect the charging port ribbon cable to the PCB.

Step 4: Reassemble the Sony XM3 Headphones
4.1. If you unfastened the screw from the power board to clean the adhesive, fasten it down with a 1.5mm Phillips screwdriver.

4.2. Reconnect the touch panel ribbon cable to the power board.

4.3. Install the charging indicator light.

4.4. Install the top piece and fasten all 8 screws on the speaker housing.

4.5. Align the foam pad with the earcup housing and place it in the correct orientation.
