Step-by-Step DIY Guide to Replacing a Wobbly or Loose AUX Port Audio Jack on the Sony WH-1000XM5 Headphones at Home
In this detailed DIY repair guide, we show you how to replace a loose or wobbly AUX PCB on the Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones yourself. Follow each step carefully and use the accompanying images as a visual guide to complete the repair with confidence.
Step 1: Extract the Left Earpad
1.1. Insert a strong metal pry tool into the seam between the earpad cushion and the earcup and gently work the tool along the perimeter till the earpad separates.
1.2. Remove the foam pad and set it aside.
Step 2: Disassemble the Earcup
2.1. Unfasten 8 small silver screws securing the speaker driver and the earcup housing.
2.2. Remove the back panel and set it aside.
2.3. Disconnect the AUX and MS cables from the main board.
2.4. Remove the single screw securing the top piece to the earcup housing.
2.5. Lift the waterproof seal halfway for easy access to the AUX PCB.
2.6. Remove the top piece from the earcup housing and pull the cables out from the gaskets.
Step 3: Extract the Worn-out AUX Port
3.1. Unfasten the 2 small screws securing the AUX PCB to the earcup housing.
3.2. Remove the old AUX PCB and discard it.
Step 4: Install New AUX PCB
4.1. Align the new AUX PCB with the 2 pins on the earcup housing, then secure it in place by fastening the 2 screws.
4.2. Feed the AUX and MS ribbon cables through the gasket on the top piece.
4.3. Align the top piece with the earcup housing and secure it by fastening the single 1.5mm screw.
4.4. Connect the AUX and MS ribbon cables to the Bluetooth board.
Step 5: Reassemble the Sony WH-1000XM5 Headphones
5.1. Place the back panel over the earcup, flip it over, and fasten the 8 screws.
5.2. Install the foam mesh.
5.3. Align the earpad cushion with the earcup, then press down till you hear the clips click into place.
